Christopher at Whitestone Cliff, Sutton Bank GR 516831, fresh and ready for another day.
Today's Walk 22nd May 2008: Sutton Bank to Osmotherley. 12.5 miles with 750 feet of ascent.

Map: Explorer OL26 North York Moors, Western Area.

Weather: A bright dry day.

Long views on offer from the start today and they're lovely. The Cleveland Way is very well signed and the paths generally
easy to see and follow. In fact you hardly need a map.
This area is well known for race horse training. There used to be a racecourse up here at 1,000 feet above sea level.
We've kept to the edge of hills so far and the views have been very pleasing.
One of several boundary stones that stand next to the trail. This one is dated 1770.
Ah this is great, on the moor tops proper - "The Long and Winding Road".
I'm sure this curlew was trying to distract us and take us away from it's mate and nest as the track passed near to them. I love
being up on high moors like these, especially when the heather is out and all you can hear for what seems like miles around is
the buzzing of honey bees in the heather and the distinctive cry of the curlew.
Twin lambs - Ahhh bless their little woolly socks. It's always good to see them at this time of the year. The winter's over,
here's new life and long hot summer days are just around the corner. We hope!
Not far to go to Osmotherley now as we pass these fishermen on a set of reservoirs at GR 476963
Always a very welcome sight is the village of Osmotherley, which is only a short drive away from the busy A19 trunk road. To
the left of green box seen in the photo is the'barter' table, an earlier version of a car boot sale no doubt.
Our b&b is 2 - 3 miles away at Over Silton, where we have our own visitors lounge and we're pampered with home made
chocolate cake and plenty of fruit and hot drinks.
This lovely display of flowers greets us at our b&b Greystone Farm, Over Silton, where we're made
very welcome by owners Sue & Lester. See my Links for contact details.
